  The evolutionary scientist and popular-science writer Richard Dawkins (born March 26, 1941 in Nairobi, Kenya) highlighted the gene as the driving force of evolution and stirred up considerable controversy with his passionate support of atheism. Dawkins was born into a scientific family. The majority of Dawkins' youth was spent in Kenya, where his father served as a military officer during World War II. It wasn't until 1949 that the family returned to England.
